Russell Brand Pleads Not Guilty to Sexual Offense Charges in UK Court
Comedian and actor Russell Brand entered Southwark Crown Court on Friday, denying five charges of rape and sexual assault. The allegations involve four women and are said to have occurred between 1999 and 2005. Brand has denied all accusations.
Brand appeared in a dark suit with an unbuttoned pinstripe shirt and confirmed his identity before pleading not guilty to all charges. The trial date has been set for June 3, 2026. The investigation began after a joint media inquiry in September 2023.
According to the Metropolitan Police, the allegations include a 1999 rape in Bournemouth, an indecent assault in Westminster in 2001, oral rape and sexual assault in 2004, and sexual assault between 2004 and 2005. The offenses took place in England.
Brand has enjoyed a career in comedy, acting, and broadcasting, appearing in Hollywood films and hosting shows in the UK. More recently, he has gained followers as a social commentator on YouTube, where he promotes conspiracy theories.
The investigation was launched following a joint report by The Sunday Times, The Times, and Channel 4’s “Dispatches.” Detectives have been investigating since late 2023.
Brand’s court appearance begins a significant legal battle. He denies the charges and will face trial next year.
